When I was a kid in Western Pennsylvania, there were some really strong old timers that I loved talking to. Many of them worked construction, stone masons, brick layers, mining, machine shops and steel foundries. They were just born tough I think, and their jobs made them even tougher.
One of them, a youngster of 75 named Franco, told me that true strength meant that you must develop your "seat of power." I politely asked him what the hell is that? He said let me translate it for you dumb ass. A really strong ass, strong lower back and stomach muscles. The words core and abs were not really in vogue back then. I think that this really is one of the secrets of gracefully getting older. I have tried to do it over the years and I think it really does help. If I remember right, he said develop the seat of power or you will not have to worry about sitting in a wheelchair or laying in a hospital bed. He also said don't become a fat ass or lazy f"*k, because they do not last long on this earth.
Thought I would share it. Not many secrets out there, but I think this is close to one.
